O.S. POPOV ODESA NATIONAL ACADEMY OF TELECOMMUNICATION ACTED AS A PARTNER IN ITU – UNESCO IITE FORUM ON CHILD ONLINE PROTECTION

 

ITU – UNESCO IITE Forum on Child Online Protection for the CIS Region was held on October 27, 2020. The forum was organized by the International Telecommunication Union jointly with the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education in partnership with O.S. Popov Odesa National Academy of Telecommunications.

The main goal of the forum was a broad presentation in the CIS Region of the new Guidelines on Child Online Protection, released by the International Telecommunication Union on June 23, 2020, for policymakers, industry, parents and educators, as well as children. The forum’s online dialogue focused on the actual use and implementation of the Child Protection Guidelines in the online environment and provided a good opportunity for in-depth analysis and discussion of child protection approaches and policies in the online environment.

The Forum was intended for representatives of ministries and departments, regulatory bodies, telecommunication operators, manufacturers of telecommunication equipment, software developers, higher and secondary educational institutions, scientific and design institutes and other interested organizations of the Member States, Sector Members and Associated Members of the ITU.

The key topics of the forum:

  • Global Activities On Child Online Protection;
  • Discuss Regional Perspective And Country Experiences: Policy And Industry Recommendations;
  • Consider Regional Perspective And Country Experiences: Teachers, Parents And Children.

The forum also featured an updated “Multimedia Distant Learning Course on Safe Use of Internet Resources” developed by the ITU Regional Office for the CIS Region jointly with the O.S. Popov Odesa National Academy of Telecommunications (available at: https://onlinesafety.info).

The OnlineSafety Course was presented by Mr. Vadim Kaptur, Vice-Rector on Scientific Work, O.S.Popov Odesa National Academy of Telecommunications.

Totally 120 participants from 14 countries have registered for the forum, namely: Albania, Azerbaijan, India, Korea, Moldova, Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Switzerland, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates. Over 80 participants took part online.

In the course of the event 4 speakers took the floor, and 16 people took part in the panel discussion.
