ITU Regional Workshop for Europe and CIS on

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in cooperation with the A.S. Popov Odessa National Academy of Telecommunications (A.S. Popov ONAT) of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine held the ITU Regional Workshop for Europe and CIS on eHealth development in Odessa, Ukraine on October 17-19, 2018.

The Workshop was attended by more than 40 people who represented 22 organizations from 12 states, namely: the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Belarus, Greece, Iran, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, Slovenia, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, the United States of America, Japan.

The workshop was devoted to such relevant issues: Role of governments and international organizations in e-health development; Regulating e-health development in Europe and CIS; Development of technical solutions in the field of e-health, including telemedicine; Actual problems of designing e-health systems, including telemedicine networks; Building human capacity in the field of e-health; Impact of telecommunications/ICT on human health; Prospects of the e-health development.

The workshop was held in Russian and English with simultaneous interpretation.
22 reports were presented at the workshop by the experts of international organizations, government bodies, educational institutions and public and private organizations.

During the grand opening of the workshop, welcoming speeches were made by: Vadim Kaptur (vice-rector for scientific work of A.S. Popov ONAT), Farid Nakhli (Programme Officer of the ITU Regional Office for CIS), Nadezhda Goncharenko (first deputy director of the Health Care Department of Odessa City council), as well as Grigory Tyapkin (director of the municipal non-commercial enterprise of information and medical condition of the Odessa region council). Also, greetings on behalf of Alexander Danchenko (Chairman of the Committee on Informatization and Communication of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine) and Stanislav Schneider (Director of the Institute of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery of the NAMS of Ukraine) were read out for the participants of the workshop.

Also, the Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau of ITU, Chaesub Lee, made a speech through a video message.

Also on that day (October 19, 2018) the round table “Prospects of the e-health development” (moderator – Petro Vorobiyenko) took place, within the framework of which the conclusions and recommendations of the workshop were developed.

During the closing ceremony, final remarks were made by: Petro Vorobiyenko (Rector of A.S. Popov ONAT) and Farid Nakhli (Programme Officer of the ITU Regional Office for CIS). Also, the participants of the workshop were awarded with the memorable certificates signed by the Rector of the A.S. Popov ONAT.
